WEST POLAND - Donald K. Keene, Jr., 66, of West Poland, died Saturday, August 28, 2010 at his home. He was born in Lewiston on August 7, 1944, the son of Donald K. Keene, Sr. and Ellen Farr Keene. He attended Megquier Hill Elementary school and graduated from Edward Little High School in the Class of 1962, serving as the class president. He faithfully served his country in the U. S. Army. He was employed by General Motors for 20 years and at various car dealerships. He made his home in the Portland area for many years.
He was a member of the Tyrian Lodge #73 AF & AM in Mechanic Falls and the Biggest Buck in Maine Club. He was an avid hunter, athlete and sports fan. He loved being outdoors, kayaking, fishing and spending time at the ocean. He was known for being eccentric, a man’s man; he saw beauty in everything and enjoyed writing and art. He and his friends enjoyed what was known as the Don Keene Open Golf Tournament, held annually for many years.
Mr. Keene is survived by his sons, Christian Keene and his wife Jessica and Peter Keene all of Poland; a brother, Vance Keene and his wife Joan of Auburn and grandchildren, Paisley Keene and Cooper Keene, both of Poland.
Graveside services were held on Wednesday, September 1 at Highland Cemetery in West Poland. Family and friends attended visitation on Wednesday morning at Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, 26 W. Dwinal St., Mechanic Falls. On-line condolences may be shared with his family at www.westonchandler.com.
